On this day …….. 9th of August 1892
Mr F. Brewer was riding Coronet in the Hunter’s steeplechase at Epsom racecourse at Mordialloc, Victoria on this day in 1892 when the horse fell six furlongs from home. Brewer was thrown some distance, but he picked himself up, caught the horse and remounted. The reins and stirrup had become entangled and were useless, but Brewer managed to keep his seat, jump the remaining fences and win the race. Both horse and rider revived rounds of applause as they returned to the weighting in enclosure.
