ON THIS DAY…… 15th August 1908 At the Criminal Court in Melbourne, Elizabeth Downey, an elderly woman, was charged with the wilful murder of Ruby Aylwood on this day in 1908.  Malpractice being alleged. Downey was found not guilty and discharged. This was an abortion that had gone wrong.
