On This Day ……. 12th May 1855

On this day in 1855, an old man, white headed, and apparently in full possession of his faculties, with the exception of his eyesight entered the Windsor Court House, in New South Wales. When stepping into the witness box, at the Police Office, nobody in the building realised that he was a centenarian. Giving his evidence in a collected manner, prefacing his deposition by a statement that he was 112 years of ago. None in court seemed more surprised at the announcement than their worships on the bench. He gave his name as John Smith, and his residence at Kurrajong. John was born in 1743.
