On this day ………… 11th February 1906
It would be wise to remember, when considering the truth of this tale, that by 1906 the rabbits were in plague proportions in North East Victoria, and even the worse marksman found it difficult to avoid killing a number of rabbits at once. The record for one shot stood at 27, but was broken on this day in 1906. Determined to create a new record, Mr H. Gibson of Gilgandra, Victoria, went out and after a degree of preparation, shot 33. He laid a trail of water in the parched countryside, and when rabbits lined themselves up to drink, made the shot and bagged the record.
