Offensive drainage which annoyed Swanston street residents for many years, was traced last year to the Geelong Gaol, where the stuffing of some old pipes caused stagnation. The Treasurer agreed to pay half cost of a diversion, provided the City Council laid a new channel in Swanston street to convoy the drainage towards the river. This work was completed on this day in 1913, and the Government has accepted half liability, £61.
