ON THIS DAY…… 2nd October 1903

Tracey Evans was returned to the Geelong gaol from Creswick, where he received a sentence of six months’ imprisonment on the previous day for stealing a watch and chain and some wearing apparel. The sentence is cumulative on a period of 12 months’ imprisonment he is undergoing for larceny at Colac. He was escorted to Geelong by Constable Morgan.

 

On This Day ……. 27th May 1908

A prisoner named James Wilson, aged 66 years, died in Geelong Gaol on this day in 1908, from pneumonia. Wilson was sentenced at North Melbourne in November last to six months imprisonment. His sentence expired on May 1, but he was in such a bad state of health that he had since been brought before the Court from week to week, and had been further sentenced.

On This Day ……. 23rd April 1907

A prisoner named Atherton, recently sentenced to six months imprisonment for imposition at Warrnambool, died in the Geelong goal hospital on this 1907. Deceased, who was 43 years of age enjoyed good health up to Sunday night, when he had a violent seizure and never rallied from it. His wife is said to reside in Adelaide, and has not the means reach Geelong.
