Book Launch – The Hunt for the Australian Ripper
In 1888 Jack the Ripper terrorized Whitechapel. The legends that grew up around those murders became iconic around the world.
Yet half a world away, in Australia, a number of copycat murders, hoaxes, accusations and media sensations rose up in the decade that followed.
The Hunt for the Australian Ripper presents a number of these stories including The Collingwood Brewery Ripper, the Biography of Frederick Deeming, who was accused of being the actual Ripper, and the Lonely Limbs Ripper.
The launch of The Hunt for the Australian Ripper will be presented at the Geelong Gaol Museum with presentations by authors Roy Maloy, and also Deb Robinson, who will be presenting her biography on Frederick Deeming.
Roy is the author of the Dawn of Crime series, Squizzy Taylor and Dolly Gray, Madam of Melbourne.
Deb is the historian of the Geelong Gaol and host of the podcast Locked up with History
At the end of the talk, we will have a Q and A so you can ask all those questions you have wanted to ask while enjoying a drink to finish off the evening.
